NumberCrunch
A numerical tool for the Macintosh.
Jim Mahoney
(mahoney@marlboro.edu).
is a scientific calculator which emphasizes array
and matrix operations. It understands complex numbers,
has a built-in programming language, can plot curves, points,
vector fields, and contours, and comes with a number of
specialized functions such as Fourier Transforms and
numerical integration routines. It won an award in the
annual "Computers in Physics" competition about five years ago.
More detailed information including
screen shots and syntax examples is also available.
NCII is now available without charge for individual and
academic use, and may be downloaded from this link.
NCII_v2p1.sea.hqx (about 1 Meg).
NumberCrunch 1.45
is the original NumberCrunch application. I haven't worked
on this in a decade, but it still works as a simple graphical
calculator. The interface is text based, and it remembers
variables and functions. For example, if you enter
"A = 0.1" and "f(x) = sin(x)/x"
then typing "f(A)" will return the value of "sin(0.1)/(0.1)".
